PhD Prize in Ecology 2021
The PhD Prize in Ecology 2021 is an initiative of the Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO) that has the mission of valuing the work of young researchers. Applications are open until 25 June and will be allocated the amounts of €3000, €2,000 and €1,000, respectively, to the first, second and third place.
This annual award, aimed at enhancing the best relevant and innovative research work in ecology, is only possible due to the generosity of a private Foundation, the Amadeu Dias Foundation (FAD). Since 2017, the partnership between SPECO and FAD represents an example of committed and consistent support for the scientific and social development of young researchers.
The initiative rewards the best PhD thesis in any area of Ecology, defended in Portuguese Universities, regardless of the nationality of the candidates. This award proves that SPECO, by valuing research in Ecology, praises the excellence of Portuguese research groups and their ability to attract international students.
SPECO intends to be, increasingly, a dynamic and participatory scientific society on social issues contributing to the scientific valorization of future ecologists and the dissemination of their work. At a time when holistic vision of how natural and urban systems work and respond to global change is imperative, the knowledge provided by ecology is crucial. The valorization of this initiative is achieved with the scrutiny of a suitable jury and with the transparency of criteria and conditions made available through the SPECO website.
